What are lip fillers?
Lip fillers are fillers based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and can contribute to hydration and volume in the skin. Because hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the body, the treatment is generally well tolerated. Lip fillers can be used to add volume to the lips, subtly improve their shape and correct asymmetry, in a way that respects the natural look of your lips.

The lip filler treatment consists of several steps, all carried out carefully by our doctors.
The first (free) consultation
Every lip filler treatment starts with a free consultation. Together with the doctor, you discuss your wishes and expectations. The doctor assesses the shape of your lips and gives honest advice about the options. There is no obligation, and you decide for yourself whether you want to go ahead with the treatment.
Preparing for the treatment
Before the injection, your lips are locally anaesthetised to keep any discomfort to a minimum. The fillers we use also contain Lidocaine, which can contribute to a comfortable experience.
The lip filler injection
The filler is injected with great precision into the desired areas in and around the lips. The treatment usually takes no longer than 30 minutes. After the injection, temporary swelling after lip fillers may occur. This is a normal reaction that usually subsides within a few days.
Care after the treatment

Lip filler before and after: what can you expect?
Before the treatment, the lips may be somewhat thinner or less symmetrical, while after the treatment they can be fuller, better defined and more in balance with the rest of the face.

After the treatment
Good aftercare for lip fillers can contribute to an optimal and long-lasting result. Follow these instructions:
- First 2 hours: do not lie flat after the treatment.
- Avoid for 24 hours: smoking, exercise and drinking alcohol.
- Sun protection: avoid direct sunlight and sunbeds for 2 weeks.
- Sauna and spa: do not visit a sauna, hammam or spa for 2 weeks.
- Other treatments: avoid facial treatments, laser treatments or peels for 2 weeks.
The final result is usually visible after ten to fourteen days, once the swelling has fully subsided and the filler has settled. The exact duration of the result and how long lip fillers last varies from person to person.

How long do lip fillers last?
On average six to twelve months, depending on the filler used and your individual metabolism. With a faster metabolism, the hyaluronic acid is broken down more quickly. A follow-up treatment can extend the result.
Is a lip filler treatment painful?
The treatment is generally not very painful, although pain perception differs from person to person. Your lips are locally anaesthetised beforehand and the fillers contain Lidocaine, an anaesthetic. Most people feel no more than a slight prick or pressure.
Can lip fillers be removed?
Yes. Because lip fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, they can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase if desired. The doctor will discuss this option with you during the consultation.
What is the difference between a lip filler and a lip flip?
With a lip filler, volume is added using hyaluronic acid. With a lip flip, Botox is used to subtly turn the upper lip outwards, without adding volume. You can discuss with the doctor which treatment suits you best.
What is lip filler migration?

Can lip fillers be combined with other treatments?
Yes, lip fillers are often combined with other treatments for a well-balanced face. A popular combination is with Botox, for example to treat fine lines around the mouth.
